SERVICES
We provide essential specialist support to ensure the safety of black women of african and caribbean heritage and families.

Refuge
With your support, we’ve purchased the UK’s first refuge of its kind, and this fundraiser will help us open it and cover operating costs.

Training
We provide specialist abuse awareness, and cultural competency training workshops to empower communities and mainstream agencies in supporting domestic abuse victims of african and caribbean heritage.

food bank
We offer this service to everyone, including our service users, homeless people and the wider community, no matter their background.

Shop
Ours is a shop that’s a charity, not a charity shop! We sell brand-new and unused, quality items at affordable prices, and offer essential items free to those fleeing abuse.
There isn’t enough data to understand the full extent of the challenges faced by Black female survivors.
Sistah Space have first hand experience gathered over the last decade which they continue to draw on to offer culturally aware support for Black women in the UK. There’s a knowledge gap, we need your help to fill in the blank pages.

50% of victims experience abuse from multiple perpetrators even though they only make up approximately 3.6% of the UK population. Our research shows that black and migrant women experience higher rates of domestic-abuse-related homicide.
86%
86% of women of African or Caribbean heritage in the UK have either been a victim of domestic abuse or known a family member who had been assaulted.
62%
62% femicide victims were Black (8 out of 13) in 2023. Which is significantly higher than 2022, where 43% (9 out of 21) of femicide victims were Black.

What do we do?
Dedicated to Black women and families of African and Caribbean heritage affected by domestic and sexual abuse.
- Specialist advice, advocacy and support for Black Women
- Hardship support by way of our food bank, Emergency packs & Fresh Start Packs which can range from tailored toiletries and hair care to baby formula and clothes
- Working with governing bodies to reduce barriers to reporting by delivering Cultural Competency Training, popularly known as Valerie’s Law
